Woke up at 5 am and drove 40 mins from Kushiro for タンチョウ (Red-crowned crane,丹頂鶴) before sunrise. Once the sun pops out, the crane taking turn to fly off to another field for ‘breakfast’. It’s was freezing cold, around -15℃, but worth every second waiting them to elegantly ’take off’. PS : In Japan, crane is known as a symbol of luck, longevity, and fidelity. For a new born, new marriage, getting a new job, moving into a new house or birthday, Japanese will send postcard/photo/greeting card of crane(s) to show their heartiest blessings.
